No Dwight Howard, No Pau Gasol, and No Rajon Rando trade, but a trade deadline that start off slow picked up quick with the Lakers, Rockets, Blazers, Wizards, Spurs, Clippers and Nuggets making some surprising move.
Blazers: The Blazers completely blew up their team they traded: C Marcus Camby to Houston, F Gerald Walace to New Jersey, and fired Nate McMillian as their coach. McMillian had somehow kept that franchise competitive even throughout their injury turmoil, I really really hope he finds another head coaching job soon.
What they got back was: G Jonny Flynn from Houston, C Mehment Okur from New Jersey, C Hasheem Thabeet from Houston, F Shawne Williams from New Jersey future 1st and 2nd rd picks.
The Blazers look like they are in rebuilding mode, sort of crazy for a team that was in the 8th seed a couple of weeks ago.
Spurs: Spurs get back Steven Jackson for Richard Jefferson and 1st round pick this is the last place I remember Jackson being productive and not a problem. Spurs get tougher defensively, and most importantly got out from that terrible Jefferson contract.
Nuggets: I don’t what the hell the Nuggets are doing- 1st you give Nene $60million dollar deal only to trade him half a year letter for wait for it…… JaVale McGee yes JaVale McGee. Don’t get me wrong McGee can play, but he is not nearly as skilled as Nene and I don’t see why the Nuggets make this trade since 6 months ago they gave him $6omillion dollars. I hope Dwight Howard knows there is no such thing as loyalty in sports.
Lakers: The Lakers always do well at the trade deadline they got a the athletic point they so desperately needed. By getting Roman Sessions and getting rid of the Luke Walton and his contract as well as a first round pick. They also threw in a shocker by trading veteran Derek Fisher to the Rockets for the young talent Jordan Hill. Kobe supposedly is ok with the move because it makes the team better , but do think on a personal level he’s sad to see D. Fish go. Everyone knew Fisher was struggling but it still sad to see him leave the Lakers. I have heard rumors about a possible buy-out for Fisher however, because of the new CBA he can not return to the Lakers.
Clippers: Not to be out done by the Lakers pick up a much-needed off guard picking up Wizards Nick Young-while only giving up Brian Cook who? and a possible draft pick. The Clippers were in desperate need for an off guard ever since Chauncey Billups went down. The get fire power and Nick Young gets to come back home. I think the Clippers definitely got the best out of this deal.
TEAMS that Stayed Pat:
Bulls: The Bulls did not make any moves-maybe after the win last night against the Heat they felt they were good. Definitely think they still need some depth at SG, but we’ll see.
Magic: The Magic are still the third best team in the East, since Howard took so long to make his decision. The Magic didn’t make any deals and Howard is stuck with the same team he couldn’t win with before.
Celtics, Heat: Both decided to roll with what they got.
