Happy Birthday 50th Michael Jordan!!!

6 NBA championships, 6 NBA MVP finals, 5 MVP, 10 scoring titles, 9 All Defensive first team,First player in NBA history to record 200 steals and 100 blocked shots in a season, and third in the NBA All-time leading scoring with 32,292 points. I’m talking about none other than the greatest to player to ever play Michael Jordan. These are just a few of his great accomplishments. As a Chicagoan growing up a bulls fan I can’t simply explain how much Michael meant not only to the organization but also to the city of Chicago. No one can deny that Michael Jordan changed the game, he was the player that everyone wanted to imitate. Future Hall of Famers Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Kobe Byrant credit MJ as the person that inspired them when they were falling in love with the game of basketball.

Jordan became the first global icon of the sport! The NBA never seen someone of that athletic talent and skill before. The dunks, the turnaround jumper, his defensive prowess, and his ultimate competitve killer instinct was something no other player embodied before Jordan came along. Jordan was also a trendsetter off the court as well. Let’s be honest he made Nike what it is today! Jordan’s shoes still outsell Kobe,  and LeBron  sneakers. That just shows you how much people still want to associate with the Jordan a decade after his retirement. His partnership with Spike Lee made everybody want to be like Mike! Since his retirement the league has been on the hunt to find the next Jordan, often considering Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. Although legit reasons can be made for their arguments about LeBron and Kobe, today lets just celebrate his greatness, and appreciate what he’s done for the game of basketball! As a Bulls fan I will always be grateful for the moments  MJ gave us. He played his heart out every night! He is the embodiment of a champion and has served as an inspiration to many on and off the court, including me. He’s truly the best to ever do it! Happy 50th birthday Michael ‘Air’ Jordan!!!

Why you mad Celts?

Am I the only one confused on why Celtics fans and players are mad over the departure of Ray Allen. The writing had clearly been on the wall for some time. There was the almost trade to Memphis earlier in the year, there was the tension between him and Rondo, and finally the signing of Jason Terry that seemed to say Allen you are no longer welcomed. So it was surprising and shocking to see and hear that Celtics fans and players react so angrily to Allen leaving. Kevin Garnett (who has know turned into an old mad man) said that he deleted Allen’s number, even Doc Rivers got in the mix saying that Allen was selfish. All this anger makes no sense the Celtics did everything to push Allen away and now that he has went away to your rival nonetheless you act like Allen “LeBroned” you which was not the case. Celts fans I am truly puzzled on “Why you mad”.

NBA Trade Deadline: No big names but definitely some shockers!!!!

No Dwight Howard, No Pau Gasol, and No Rajon Rando trade, but a trade deadline that start off slow picked up quick with the Lakers, Rockets, Blazers, Wizards, Spurs, Clippers and Nuggets making some surprising move.

Blazers: The Blazers completely blew up their team they traded: C Marcus Camby to Houston, F Gerald Walace to New Jersey, and fired Nate McMillian as their coach.  McMillian had somehow kept that franchise competitive even throughout their injury turmoil, I really really hope he finds another head coaching job soon.

What they got back was: G Jonny Flynn from Houston, C Mehment Okur from New Jersey, C Hasheem Thabeet from Houston, F Shawne Williams from New Jersey future 1st and 2nd rd picks.

The Blazers look like they are in rebuilding mode, sort of crazy for a team that was in the 8th seed a couple of weeks ago.

Spurs: Spurs get back Steven Jackson for Richard Jefferson and 1st round pick this is the last place I remember Jackson being productive and not a problem.  Spurs get tougher defensively, and most importantly got out from that terrible Jefferson contract.

Nuggets: I don’t what the hell the Nuggets are doing- 1st you give Nene $60million dollar deal only to trade him half a year letter for wait for it…… JaVale McGee yes JaVale McGee. Don’t get me wrong McGee can play, but he is not nearly as skilled as Nene and I don’t see why the Nuggets make this trade since 6 months ago they gave him $6omillion dollars. I hope Dwight Howard knows there is no such thing as loyalty in sports.

Lakers: The Lakers always do well at the trade deadline they got a the athletic point they so desperately needed. By getting Roman Sessions and getting rid of the Luke Walton  and his contract as well as a first round pick.  They also threw in a shocker by trading veteran Derek Fisher to the Rockets for the young talent Jordan Hill. Kobe supposedly is ok with the move because it makes the team better , but do think on a personal level he’s sad to see D. Fish go. Everyone knew Fisher was struggling but it still sad to see him leave the Lakers.  I have heard rumors about a possible buy-out for Fisher however, because of the new CBA he can not return to the Lakers.

Clippers: Not to be out done by the Lakers pick up a much-needed off guard picking up Wizards Nick Young-while only giving up Brian Cook who? and a possible draft pick. The Clippers were in desperate need for an off guard ever since Chauncey Billups went down. The get fire power and Nick Young gets to come back home.  I think the Clippers definitely got the best out of this deal.

TEAMS that Stayed Pat:

Bulls: The Bulls did not make any moves-maybe after the win last night against the Heat they felt they were good.  Definitely think they still need some depth at SG, but we’ll see.

Magic: The Magic are still the third best team in the East, since Howard took so long to make his decision. The Magic didn’t make any deals and Howard is stuck with the same team he couldn’t win with before.

Celtics, Heat: Both decided to roll with what they got.

Magic Johnson’s-The Announcement-Did the HIV Announcement overshadow his greatness?

After watching Magic Johnson’s -The Announcement I almost forgot how good of a basketball player Magic really was.  I was only about 4 years old when Magic retired so I never really experienced Magic’s game first-hand.  But I think with the combination of Magic being a spokesperson for HIV, his successful business dealings, and with Kobe being Mr. Laker now. It is crazy to think that beyond all that Magic Johnson is arguably the best basketball player to ever play. It’s hard to knock Jordan off of that number 1 spot, but a strong case could be made Magic and his impact on the game. Would love to hear what other sports fans feel about Magic’s place in history.

NBA: What to Expect Second Half of the Season

After this years lock out I expected the NBA to get off to a slow start, but to be honest this season hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be.  Between the Heat and the Thunder playing lights out. The Spurs have come out of nowhere in the West to be an actual contender for that number seed in the West, the Minnesota Timberwolves and there 17 point guards are entertaining and competitive,  and of course the Jeremy Lin story has taken the league by storm, so what’s next for rest of the NBA Season.

Miami Heat will Roll into the Playoffs: The Miami Heat are on an eight game winning streak winning all those games by 12 points are more.  Dwayne Wade and LeBron James are more aggressive than they ever were, and they look like they are on a mission. Chris Bosh is also putting together a very solid season as well. James is also looking like a legit MVP candidate and unlike last year this team is a lot deeper than it was last year.  When you look at any other team in the NBA it would take a Hurclean effort to beat this team 4 times in the playoffs.  Right now the Heat look like Champions.

Linsanity will not continue: Hold on don’t go crazy I’m not saying Lin is going to back to riding the bench collecting DNP’s. But there is no way that he can continue this pace first of all with Carmelo being back Lin will not need to score as many points.  And as you saw in the Miami game there is a blue print out on stopping him, force him to his left and he is not as affective.  With Baron Davis finally healthy, I think Lin will spend more time splitting his minutes with Davis and not be on the court so much.  Lin will still be a good player in the league but Linsanity is over.

OKC Thunder are really good:The Thunder are young, athletic, and want to win.  I do worry about their inexperience in a possible series against the Spurs.  But I don’t think the Russell Westbrook will keep this team from winning, he may take bad shots but he wants to win.

The Lakers will Make a big move: The Lakers know they have to get better, and they know they have very little trade assets beside Gasol and Bynum (they’re not trading Kobe, duh) and the Lakers are the Lakers.  I don’t think Dwight Howard will go to the Lakers, I just don’t see that happen he doesn’t want to follow in Shaq’s footsteps.  But Deron Williams will not be a Net at the end of the season, the Lakers desperately need a point guard and have made it known that Gasol is on the trading block.

Why are people trying to count out Kobe?

I am a self-proclaimed Kobe hater. But my hate for Kobe comes from his public persona-when he first came into the league Kobe tried to hide the fact that he was an ass. Kobe tried to put on this nice guy personality; he tried too hard to be the new Magic Johnson type of guy when that wasn’t him. But as Kobe has gotten older he has embraced his sort f*ck everybody persona. However, even with all my Kobe hate I never ever disrespected Kobe’s game, I never disrespected his win at all cost competitive spirit. So why is everybody surprised that Kobe is playing well at 33. I know Kobe’s been in the league 16 years, and his 33 year old legs have a lot of mileage, but people are forgetting this is Kobe Bryant!!!!!!!!! When did 33 become 63, he’s not going to be eating chocolate pudding in a nursing home anytime soon. Did people forget that Kobe plays best when people doubt him? People are pick the Clippers over the Lakers you think Kobe doesn’t hear that, his wife filed for divorce you don’t think Kobe hears the whispers, you bet Kobe has heard about the ESPN Poll ranked him 7TH BEST player in the league-so stop it people stop trying to say Kobe’s done because he’s not. You can never ever be surprised about what Kobe can do; at the end of the day you don’t think Kobe could still win MVP this year. I’ve been on record as saying he’s breaking his 81pt game this year. Kobe will be playing at this level for these many years to come so I hope people learn stop doubting Kobe.

Why do I hate Chris Bosh?

Chris Bosh is a perennial all-star type player. Throughout his career he is 20 point 8 rebound type player. He absolutely killed my Bulls last year-who acted like they never saw a pump fake before but I digress. Anytime Bosh is interviewed always sounds well spoken, and intelligent, and he has never been in any legal or criminal trouble. I would even argue that he could be a legit max player, however there is something about Chris Bosh when he is on the court that annoys the living Sh*t out of me. Many of the people I asked think Bosh is soft; he doesn’t play big for his 6’11 height. He doesn’t bang like guys did back in the nineties (the Rodman’s, Malone’s, Oakley’s, etc), he’s not that guy. That could be said be said about a bunch of people in the NBA nowadays. But why I people despise Bosh so much is that he actually THINKS he is one of those tough guys. What I mean by that is that everybody knew Bosh was a softie when he was in Toronto and he never really challenged that assumption. But when he got to Miami with Wade and James, Bosh thought he was on their level. Bosh has a tendency to jump in people faces in games and expects people to be scared of him, like really dude? Bosh wants us to forget about him falling out crying after the finals, but if he would’ve played defense against Dirk maybe he wouldn’t be crying. I wish Bosh would accept his role and stop being a tough guy. I’m saying all of this, but I must credit Bosh with being a good player he just not a tough guy so just stop Bosh stop it. Just be you and that’s ok.

Can Atlanta Hawks really become contender?

The Atlanta Hawks are the most underrated team in the NBA right now. While everyone, rightfully so, is talking about Miami and Chicago coming out of the East, Atlanta is quietly trucking along.  The Hawks beat Miami at Miami and if they weren’t on the second night of a back to back they should’ve beat Chicago at Chicago.   The Hawks are dangerous they are athletic at all 5 positions on the floor and that zone defense they play gave Miami and Chicago fits.  If Tracy McGrady can come off the bench and contribute the way he did in the Miami game the Hawks will not be an easy out in the playoffs. If somehow this management could pull off a trade for the hometown kid Dwight Howard even if it is for the rest of the year, the Hawks in my opinion leap over the Bulls.  Even if they keep this team the exact same Josh Smith and Al Horford are a hell of a match up for anytime, and Jeff Teague is quietly becoming a solid a point gaurd. Their athletic ability on both ends of the floor will cause teams problems. The Hawks may not be the sexy pick out of the East but you can not sleep on this team.
